An Invitation To Arts Summit 2013

DEAR ARTS COMMUNITY COLLEAGUE,

As you may have heard at the recent ArtsBC conference or through other sources, the Alliance for Arts and Culture is presenting Arts Summit 2013, June 21 & 22 at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre in Vancouver.

I am writing today to urge you to join this important conversation about the future of cultural policy in British Columbia and to let you know that, because we are behind schedule in getting the word out across the province, we are extending the Early Bird Registration date for non-Metro Vancouver attendees to midnight Friday, May 31.

JOIN THE CONVERSATION:  Public policy can seem very dry and not at all sexy, but we have assembled a lineup of inspiring speakers, experienced policy developers, and terrific entertainment to make the Summit as much fun as it will be work. You can find programming details and the two-day schedule at the Arts Summit 2013 website.

If you believe that a cultural policy would benefit us all by bringing clarity and stability to the relationships between artists, culture workers, government departments, and funding sources, we need your voice in this conversation.

This exchange of ideas and proposals needs to be as inclusive as possible, with every region of the province, every discipline, and every arts, cultural, and heritage sector participating. Coming out of Arts Summit 2013 we will launch a year-long project that will include meetings and teleconferences using several forums and formats.

But there’s nothing quite like meeting face-to-face, so we encourage you to consider joining us in person as we kick-start this initiative.

WHY, YOU ASK?  Because our government has a new mandate and we need to be proactive in keeping arts, culture, and heritage high among their concerns. Because we have been talking among ourselves for years, if not decades, about the need for a comprehensive and sustainable cultural policy. Because if not us, who, and if not now, when?

ACCOMMODATION FOR THE SUMMIT: The Best Western Plus Chateau Granville, located in the heart of downtown Vancouer and in walking distance of the Summit, has come on board as our hospitality partner, making a limited number of room nights available for Summit participants at a discounted rate. Contact the Alliance’s Mark Kowalk at  mark@allianceforarts.com for details and the required promotional code information.
