Brigitte Desbois

Established in Nelson, BC since 2007, I never tire of the endless inspiration the area has to offer.  Being an avid plein-air painter, I find it incredible just having it all at my doorstep.  I love the challenge of capturing the light and the mood and I search for color harmonies that evoke the time and place.
“I yearn to capture a breath of a moment and as my pulse beats with the rhythm of the wind, to release it all with a sigh of the brush.”
Art for me is a lifelong adventure and it is an insatiable quest to keep on learning that keeps my passion alive.

Brigitte was born in Montreal spent her childhood in England, her teen-age years in Ottawa then Paris.  Being exposed to different parts of the world she developed a love of travel and felt compelled to connect to all forms of culture.

Brigitte has always had a profound love of art and as a teenager in Paris she would spend her time in “Le Musée des Impressionnistes” and the “Musée d’Art Moderne”.  At eighteen, returning from France, she first earned a living as a silk painting artist.  In 1997, a renewed interest in art led her to study oil painting at “L’Atelier Michel Ange” in Quebec City.  She moved to Calgary in 1998, studied with established artists and attended several courses and workshops at ACAD and Red Deer College.  Brigitte later returned to Montreal to complete an intensive course at “Mission Renaissance Fine Art School”.  In 2007 she relocated to Nelson, BC with her family.

Brigitte is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.  She also has a passion for teaching and animates outdoor painting workshops.  Her work has been shown in various juried exhibitions and figures in many private collections in Alberta, British Columbia and Québec.
