My interest in art first began in high school in Rossland with portrait sketching and oil painting of landscapes and flowers. The main focus of my art life now is to create images in water media concentrating mainly on the beautiful area around Kootenay Lake and also from images gathered while travelling. The soft delicate feel of watercolour lends itself especially to painting flowers. Pouring on the pigment and only using brushes in the finishing process helps me keep colours clean and fresh.
The network of artists in the West Kootenay has encouraged and motivated me to paint for my own pleasure and the pleasure of others. Plein air painting discussing techniques and the critiquing by my fellow artists have been valuable to me. I very much enjoy working with other artists trying new approaches and mediums.
In April of 2006 I held my first exhibition “Blossoms and Memories” at the Langham Gallery. This show exhibited most of my work from 1980 to 2006. I have exhibited with the Rossland Art Club, Visac Gallery, The Langham Gallery and in West Kootenay Chapter shows and in the fall of 2012 at the Live Art Shop in Kaslo. I was honored to be tied for second place in the People’s Choice Award at the Salon of Art “2003” at the Langham Gallery and to have had a painting in both the juried shows of the West Kootenay Chapter of the FCA in 2003 ,2004 and 2009.
I am retired and live at Schroeder Point near Kaslo B.C. I am an avid gardener, traveler, fisherwoman and I love spending time with my family and friends. I am an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, The Visac Gallery in Trail and the Langham Gallery.
Loving the outdoors and the landscapes of my home province has been inspirational for me. I hope to continue my growth as a painter and a person. Walking through the beaches and woodlands of the Kootenays with my camera has helped me through some hurdles in the past and I believe that painting has become a meditation for me. The planning and producing images that please the viewer will always be my goal.
