“Be guided by feelings alone. Reality is one part of art; feeling completes it… . ..If you have really been touched , you will convey to others the sincerity of your emotion.”
Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot

I believe that artists should paint their passions and my muse is the natural world. Whilst accurate representation is important to me, I am not interested in a highly detailed description of an animal. I don’t want a painting to look like a photograph – I feel more accomplishment in capturing the essence, spirit or emotion of a moment.

I am often attracted to a gesture, a feeling or mood, a play of  light & shade, a connection or an interaction. While painting, I retain a sense of how I felt at that moment and I draw on that emotion. The hushed feeling that sometimes steals upon you in the early morning calm, or a sense of excitement, tranquility, delight, intrigue, wonder.  I want to communicate that in my paintings. I love how the technical aspects of art combine with the emotion to produce a whole that’s more than the parts.
